New fitness group starting next week!!

I usually don't post about these here, but I thought "what the heck" and decided to just put a quick notice up!!

Favorite Shakeology recipe!

Good morning and Happy Monday!

Before Shakeology came along, I was one of those "never eats breakfast" type of girl. I was just never hungry in the short time between waking up and needing to leave my house in the morning, and then once I got to work, it was GO GO GO and no opportunity to get a healthy breakfast later on in the morning.

But once I decided to give Shakeology a try (and it took a little convincing but I'm so glad I caved), I realized that I had a ready-made, superfood-filled breakfast in my cabinet!


No more starving myself in the morning only to overeat at lunch and dinner, no more carb-heavy, empty calorie foods from Starbucks that I ate just because it was the most convenient option.



And once I played around and found some Shakeology recipes I loved, I was hooked!

*I've even seriously reduced my coffee intake - I just don't need it!! Shakeology gives me the energy and awake feeling that coffee used to give me, but without all the unpleasant side effects - jitters, caffeine headaches, energy crash, etc.*

So I just thought I should share my *favorite* Shakeology recipe with you, to show you how simple it is and how yummy it can be!







And that's it!! I know this is probably not mind-blowing or anything with it's originality or complexity, but it works!

You really can't beat something that is easy to make, tastes good, uses minimal ingredients, and provides you with so much nutrition and health benefits.

3 Day Refresh results - Round 2

I know I skipped Day 3, I was crazy busy with work and ran out of time.

But here are my results after completing all 3 days of this great little program :)



Down 4.4 lbs and 3 inches YEAH!!! *insert happy dance emoji here*

I'm not quite sure what I did differently this time around, but I definitely saw much better results this week.


I feel really great and ready to begin this summer on a HEALTHY foot <3

3 Day Refresh - again Day 2!

  Ok Day 2 peeps!!

Day 2 weight:  185.4 (almost 2 lbs down from Day 1!)


Not much to report on, except that I'm feeling great, more alert and awake! Which is always a good thing :)

Had my chocolate vegan Shakeology again for breakfast, and a couple cups of hot tea at work!

Unfortunately, after I got to work I realized that I left my Fiber Sweep and Vanilla Fresh shake packets at home!!

*facepalm*

And this was my face upon that realization:



But I stayed strong, drank a TON of water, had more tea, and ate my lunchtime veggies like the 3 Day Refresh schedule says! I was discouraged that I left that shake stuff at home but I was not going to give up that easily - I stuck with the program as best I could  :)

3 Day Refresh - again!

Hello out there!

It's been a while.

2 vacations, crazy work schedule, taking all the pets to the vet, dinners with friends...it never ends!! haha

All good things to be busy with, but stressful and time-consuming still :)

I will be the first to say that I have majorly fallen off the healthy eating wagon. A lot of the time it has been the furthest thing from my mind.

But I'm here to put an end to that and recommit myself to living a healthier, more active life!



So with that commitment to myself, I decided to start June off with another round of the 3 Day Refresh :)

I first tried this 3 day "cleanse" back in October and it was great! I lost a couple of pounds and felt better overall, so I figured it was time to try it out again in preparation for full-time healthy eating.


Here's where I stand:

Day 1 weight: 187.1

To tell the truth, I'm really disappointed in myself for letting my weight creep up so high. But I'm focused forward, and committed to seeing results with weightloss this summer!

Beachbody On Demand!

  So last night was my first experience with Beachbody's new streaming workout service, called Beachbody On Demand, or BOD!!



 This service is really amazing - it's like Netflix for your Beachbody workouts!! You can stream to your:

*smartphone
*tablet
*laptop
*PC
*TV (using either Google Chromecast or an Apple TV)


Pretty much anywhere you have an internet connection and a web browser!! (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc)




All you do is log in to your Team Beachbody account, click "Beachbody On Demand" and then pick which workout to do!! It's really simple :)

There is a general "Member Library" of programs available for all users of BOD. You can also find workouts from programs that you have already previously bought from Beachbody - which is great for if you're going to be away from your DVDs but still want to stick with the workout schedule for your program!!

This service is PERFECT for:

*going on vacation
*traveling for work
*camping (provided you have internet access!!)
*anytime you want to work out but don't want to pull out the DVDs
*trying a workout from a program you're interested in but not sure if it's for you - try it before you buy i! :)

I tried a P90X3 workout last night using BOD and it was great!!

I loved it - I got to try a brand new program, no DVDs required, using my tablet instead of the TV!

Ultimate Reset Complete!

I have come down with a nasty cold since completing the Ultimate Reset last week, ugh!!

So I just wanted to stop by really quickly and post my final weight - I'm so happy with my results and the program in general :)

My final weight: 173.0

That's a weightloss of 9.8 lbs over 3 weeks!

I'm thrilled with this, especially since weight loss wasn't my main goal for doing this cleanse - I feel great, have tons of energy, fewer digestive issues, am more alert - just in general, I feel BETTER.

Ultimate Reset - Day 10

Day 10!!! I can't believe I'm already halfway through this program.

So here's my info as of today:

Weight: 174.6 (almost 10 lbs!!)

I feel more alert, energetic and just GOOD. Not sluggish or sleepy like I usually do after eating sugar and carb-heavy foods. I'm really loving how my body feels at this point - but I'm looking forward to how it will feel at the end too! :)


Here is a quick shot of my breakfast - Fruit Plate

I used a lot of different types of fruit: strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, mango, pineapple, blackberries and raspberries. It was so good, and kept me full well until lunch time! :)


I am SO loving this program so far!! I won't lie, it has NOT been easy. The first night, I dreamed I ate a whole cake! Those sugary cravings are so real haha! But I have been full after every meal, which is not something you'd typically be able to say about a "cleanse" or "detox" program.

Refresh yourself for 2015!

Happy Monday-after-the-holidays y'all!

Back to the grind, at least for me. I'm totally jealous of any of y'all that have the between Christmas and New Year's week off from work!

 So if any of you are like me, you've probably had MORE than your share of treats and goodies over the Christmas holiday - and probably most of the month leading up to it, too!

While I firmly believe that the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are meant to be shared with loved ones and not worrying about how many calories are in that pie, or how many cookies I've already eaten today, or when is it too much eggnog - I also believe that just because you have a cheat day or 2 (or 7) does NOT mean that you should throw in the towel on getting back into your healthy eating habits and stay on the path of high calorie, overly processed foods either!

Now I know this is easier said than done - I myself have fallen a bit off the healthy wagon recently. Seems like it's just TOO easy for one cookie to turn into 3, and a few spoonfuls of ice cream to turn into a whole bowl...it's so hard to stop once you succumb to all those goodies, especially if you've been trying to avoid them!

I did get myself back onto my beloved keto wagon a couple of weeks before Christmas, and I was feeling so great! I'd lost about 5 lbs by Christmas, but then I got a ton of chocolate-covered cherries, petit fours and other goodies from Santa....and I just couldn't say no! It was all so delicious but made me feel SO sick, sluggish, and bloated. NOT worth it.

So needless to say, I'm getting myself prepared to start 2015 with a clean slate, free of junk food, sugar and carbs! I'm participating in a new challenge group starting January 5th, and I'm also kicking everything off with the 3 Day Refresh again!



I did the 3 Day Refresh for the first time about 2 months ago, in October - you can read about my experience, results and overall thoughts on it here. I really enjoyed it (although I missed steaks haha), so I'm excited to go through it again and see how my results differ this time!

New challenge group - starts January 5th!!

I'm hoping to start a new challenge group on January 5th!

3 Day Refresh review!

So I've just finished my very first 3 Day Refresh!

For those of you not familiar with it, the 3 Day Refresh is sort of a "cleanse" - made to help you get back on track with eating healthy if you've had a binge weekend, conquer cravings, get a flatter belly and feel more energized!! You do get to eat fruits, veggies, and a variety of shakes on this program, so you're not starving!

I decided to give this a try a couple weeks ago when I just felt out of whack. I was indulging my cravings for sweets and junk food more than I should have been, and I couldn't seem to snap myself out of it. I felt tired all the time, had a hard time getting a good night's sleep, my face was breaking out a bit (thanks carbs!) and I just had a general feeling of YUCKINESS. lol I don't really know how else to describe it. I remembered that Beachbody had the Ultimate Reset, which is 21 days (too long for me! I love eating meat WAY too much to be able to do that one haha) so as I was reading a bit of info about that one, I came across their 3 Day Refresh! I was like, well 3 days isn't so bad, I can do anything for 3 days! I was ready to give my body a jump start back into my good eating habits, and if I lost a couple pounds on the way, then that would be the cherry on top!



My box arrived late last week, and I decided to start it this Monday. I read a ton of other reviews about doing this program and it seemed that they all recommended doing your 3 days during the work week - days that you have kind of the same schedule, and things to occupy your time so you wouldn't just be sitting around thinking about food! That makes total sense to me, I could just imagine myself trying to do this over a weekend, and since I spend most of my fall Saturdays watching football, I immediately knew I would get the TV munchies and end up raiding my kitchen!

The excellent program guide spells out EVERYTHING for you, including lists of approved fruits, veggies, fats and sample meals for dinner! I was really surprised at how much I would be eating on this program - when I think of programs like this, the first thing that comes to mind is The Master Cleanse - yuck!!

The schedule looks like this:

First thing in the AM: drink water
Breakfast: Shakeology + 1 serving fruit
Mid-Morning: Fiber Sweep
Lunch: Vanilla Fresh + 1 serving fruit, veggies + fat
Mid-Afternoon snack: 1 serving veggies + fat
Dinner: Vanilla Fresh + 1 dinner meal (from the guide book)

*The program is offered either WITH or WITHOUT Shakeology packets - I already get Shakeology delivered, so I opted for the package without Shakeology. This would also be a good way for someone who is interested in trying Shakeology to take it for a spin and see how they like it! My morning chocolate Shakeology was BY FAR the best daily shake out of the 3 you have to drink for this program haha :)

So as you can see, you're getting 2 servings of fruit each day, plus 3 servings of veggies and fat each day! I say 3 servings of veggies and fat because for your dinner meal, you're getting in about 1 more serving each of veggies and fat in addition to the 2 you already ate for lunch & afternoon snack. With this plan, I felt like I was ALWAYS eating or drinking something haha! One of the hard parts though, at least for me, was that there are time limits between some of the meals. For example, once you have the Fiber Sweep in the morning, you are supposed to wait at least an hour to have your lunch meal. For some reason, once I was on the clock waiting for that hour to end, I was IMMEDIATELY hungry. It seemed to make it so much harder to focus on work and to NOT think about food when I knew I had to wait lol.

Here are my thoughts throughout the 3 days, along with my weight each morning!


Day 1:  169 lbs.
-breakfast shakeology (choc + strawberries/raspberries) good!
-a little grumpy from no coffee, no caffeine headache yet
-Fiber Sweep: bad texture, citrus flavor ok
-Vanilla fresh: hard to mix, tastes ok
-feel full, not hungry
-headache at bedtime, caffeine?

Day 2: 168.6 lbs.
-didn't sleep well
-headache gone
-same breakfast shakeology (choc + raspberries)
-slight headache at bedtime

Day 3: 167.8
-feel good!
-could not drink all of the Fiber Sweep
-felt full after each meal even though not eating a lot
-could not finish Vanilla Fresh for lunch or dinner, texture an issue

Day 4: 167.2
-feel good! mostly happy to get coffee + real food today
-tummy is pretty flat this morning :)
-skin looks AMAZING

Overall, I lost 1.8 lbs! To be honest, this was less than I was expecting. I didn't go into this 3 Day Refresh program with the goal of losing a ton of weight, but most of the reviews I read ahead of time said they lost 3, 5, 9 lbs - so I was expecting with the decrease in daily calories, I would lose something comparable. But I think maybe my reason for not losing very much was that I was eating fairly healthy before I started. I mean yes, I was eating chocolate and candy and soda more than I wanted to, but it wasn't like my entire diet was chips and pasta and bread - so I didn't have to cut out quite as much crap as some people might, so my weight loss make sense! I'm THRILLED with what I did lose, don't get me wrong! Especially since weight loss wasn't my primary goal, I think 1.8 lbs gone is pretty good :)

Here are my before/after pics! *Apologies for the poor quality, I've only just realized how poor the lighting in my bedroom is :/ It may not look like it, but this is 1.8 lbs lost! I think the shadows make my tummy look larger in the second picture, but you can see that my love-handle area looks smaller! My clothes fit much looser now as well. I didn't take any actual measurements, which I'm kicking myself for, but I was running late to work the morning I took my "before" and didn't have time! I would say I've maybe lost 2 inches from my waist over the 3 days, judging by how my jeans are fitting me. That's a definitely win in my book!


Some honest thoughts on the program:

Fiber Sweep is NOT GOOD. Fiber Sweep is a high-fiber formula that is supposed to help gently clean out your digestive system and can help lower cholesterol and the risk of heart disease! Flavor wise, it's slightly citrus-y, which is sort of refreshing. The texture really got me - you're supposed to mix it into water and drink it RIGHT away because it contains psyllium husk and will thicken up super fast. It was grainy but chunky at the same time, and I really struggled with choking it down each day.

Vanilla Fresh was NOT GOOD. Vanilla Fresh is a high-protein formula that is full of ingredients to help curb hunger and satisfy your appetite. The vanilla flavor was sort of diluted, I think if it was a little stronger that would have helped. Again, it was a texture issue for me. I had a really hard time getting the Vanilla Fresh to fully mix into the water. I used a shaker bottle to mix the Vanilla Fresh each day since I was at work with no blender. The first day, I mixed up the Vanilla Fresh, drank it all down, and only when I went to wash out my shaker bottle did I realize that maybe 50% of the shake mix was stuck to the lid! Then the rest of the times I needed to mix up the Vanilla Fresh, I stirred it first (before shaking) with a fork/spoon but there were still lots of chunks that I couldn't get dissolved. And by the time I had my last Vanilla Fresh shake last night, I was just totally over the slightly grainy texture and weak flavor and I couldn't bring myself to finish it :/

Aside from my texture issues with the 2 drink mixes, everything else was good! Yes, I was a bit hungry at times, but I didn't cheat. The hunger wasn't anything I couldn't handle. It was hard when my boyfriend snacked on M&Ms and chips, because I REALLY wanted some, but I held out!!

So overall, it was a worthwhile experience. No, I was not a fan of the 2 drink mixes provided in the program, but I wouldn't say they were deal-breakers. I would still do this 3 Day Refresh again in the future if I needed to maybe lose a couple pounds before a vacation, or a special occasion, or to detox my body after a vacation or an over-indulgent weekend!

I do want to add that by the end, I did feel refreshed, energized and my cravings for junk had mostly gone away! My skin has looked AMAZING thanks to this as well :)

Rainy Tuesday

Here we are...yet another drizzly, grey day here in Seattle! Surprise, surprise, right?

I am in the midst of Day 2 of my 3 Day Refresh! It's going...ok...I haven't exactly been starved or anything, but I do miss meat lol. But I'll have more info on this after I finish and post my full review at the end of the week!



I just wanted to put this out there - I love my chocolate Shakeology. And this is coming from someone who at first said NO WAY to buying it when I got my PiYo challenge pack over the summer! I was doing my low-carb thing, which was TOTALLY working, so I was like, no I don't need some shake to mess up all my progress!

I finally caved when I decided to sign up as a Beachbody coach in July, and I needed the monthly purchase to keep me as an "active" coach. I tried the sampler pack before committing to which flavor I wanted as my monthly delivery - I hadn't tried any of the flavors before, so I didn't want to buy without trying them first!

If you're considering Shakeology, the sampler pack is the PERFECT way to give each flavor a run through so you'll know which ones you like and which you don't! It's only $20, you get a packet of each of the 4 main flavors: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and greenberry!  There's also a vegan option (yes, Beachbody has vegan Shakeology!) for the same price and comes with 2 packets of Vegan Chocolate and 2 of Vegan Tropical Strawberry. I haven't tried either of the vegan flavors, but I've heard good things!

Personally, when I tried all of the flavors from the sampler pack, I HATED the Greenberry :/ It has a sort of weird fruity, oatmeal-y taste that just wasn't my thing. But I thought the vanilla and strawberry were decent - at the time when I tried them, I didn't have any fruit to blend up with them, and I think their flavors would be improved with the addition of any kind of add-ins: strawberries, blueberries, peanut butter, sugar-free flavorings, watermelon...there are literally ENDLESS possibilities! And when you get your order of Shakeology, Beachbody gives you a little calendar sheet with a different recipe each day based on what flavor you ordered! Super helpful for those of us that aren't that creative or adventurous in the kitchen!



But back to Shakeology - what is it exactly?

Happy Monday! I guess this is the perfect day of the week for it to be National Coffee Day!


I think we all need coffee on Mondays a little bit more than on any other day, am I right?

I, for one, LOVE coffee. I NEED coffee.

I'm the type of person who usually doesn't even speak to anyone in the morning before I've had at least a sip of my coffee. It's serious yall.

I mean, what better way is there to start your day off that with a hot, creamy cup of coffee and fills the air with such a delicious smell??

Lately I've been struggling with having to choose between my morning coffee and my chocolate Shakeology (and let's be honest, coffee was winning 4 out of 5 times).

I realize this is INCREDIBLY simple. I don't know how it took me so long to figure this out, but I'm SO glad that I finally did!
